Brooklyn is arguably the hip hop capitol of the world. So if you ask for a list of the borough’s top music artist you’ll undoubtedly get a long list of rappers. But is this borough really only about rap? Absolutely not. Brooklyn RnB singer, songwriter, and producer, Nathaniel is aggressively proving that his borough doesn’t just breed rap but great talent period. With musical influences like India Arie, Musiq Soulchild, and Smokey Norful, Nathaniel gives contemporary RnB a fresh sound as he blends hip hop, neo-soul, and gospel.
One of seven children raised by a single mom in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene housing projects, it was singing in the church and fine tuning basketball skills which kept Nathaniel grounded. The talent and skill he showed in basketball would make even a Harlem globetrotter envious. However, considering his lack in height and his overwhelming passion for singing, the music was born.
In 2000, Nathaniel made his first pursuit toward singing success in the group “No Identity” which included his 2 brothers and 2 friends. Later on in 2008, only he and his brothers went forward and made another attempt with the group “Mr. Peterson”. He began gaining notoriety with the group as they got radio play and accolades like the Urban Threshold’s Underground Music Award for Best Male R&B Group of 2008. As his passion and motivation for success was further fueled by the birth of his son, Nathaniel eventually made the decision to pursue a solo career .
As Nathaniel took his career in his own hands, he launched and became the CEO of his own label Flynate Music Group.Since 2010. Nathaniel has recently released his Single. L.O.V.E. feat Hip Hop Heavyweight LL Cool. J. His vocals have also been featured on the music projects of, Ludacris/I-20 -The Definition, Papoose -Boo’d Up, DJ Absolute/Acehood /French Montana – Untouchable, and Wiz Khalifa/Cho Boyz – Fast lane, just a few of his many collaborations.
Nathaniel released his first mix-tape titled “Born” on his birthday January 25, 2012, which conceptually illustrates his readiness to be born into the music industry. His mix-tape is filled with tracks of relatable and honest lyrics that will give the music industry the emotion and heartbeat it’s been missing. He artfully sings his truth, as every experience and conversation becomes a song.” What sets me apart is mainly that I deliver my music based off of my story and experience. There’s a million and one male artist in the world, but we all have a unique point of view.”
Additionally, he has been philanthropic by lending his talent to uplift and empower others. He has participated in Brooklyn for Barack, The Annual Week of People hosted by HUB Entertainment, Newark’s campaign to stop the violence, Covenant House’s first Annual Youth Explosion, ME Divas Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention music series.
Nathaniel is fervently positioning himself for success. His dedication to his son, music, and community continue to keep him humble.
