Seminal global dance group Buraka Som Sistema spent the past 10 years shaping and merging the now infamous “Kudoro” style with electronic music for a unique and groundbreaking sound. From chart-topping hits around the globe and collaborations with megastars like M.I.A, to being tapped by internationally acclaimed DJs from Skrillex to Diplo, after 800 shows, three albums, and one EP, the Portuguese outfit will be taking a break after a final tour in 2016. Dates to be announced later this year.
If you’re already mourning the loss of the band’s world-inspired sound, not to worry, founding member Branko has you covered. The Buraka creative driving force is gearing up for the release of his debut album ‘ATLAS’ which includes features from Mr.Carmack, Princess Nokia, MC Bin Laden, and more, coming September 4th via his Lisbon based label Enchufada.
Yesterday, Branko released “On Top,” an Amsterdam meets Capetown inspired track. The globetrotting producer met Zanillya and Capadose (formerly known as THEprinceOFbeatz) in the Netherlands where they began the project, and Branko would then take it to South Africa where he met kwaito kings The Ruffest, who laid down vocals on the track. The final touches were added when he recorded a 13-person vocal choir for the breakdown, resulting in a track that is the perfect snapshot of an album that fully embodies Branko’s worldly minded approach to music.
