After having self-released three full length albums, San Francisco producer Nym has teamed up with Emancipator’s label Loci Records to release his Convex LP. Taking influence from hip hop, film scores, and world music, Nym’s music is right at home with Loci, who are quickly becoming the go-to label for artists whose music bridges the gap between downtempo and hip hop. He and Doug Appling of Emancipator have been lifelong friends and collaborators, and have complementary artistic visions.
“This is memory music,” says the producer of his heady, introspective beats. “It’s about how simple things are more complex upon closer inspection. It’s about natural ghosts in strange spaces. This is the result of several years of studying the emerging global trip hop genre and finding my place in it. It is a mix of both powerful emotions and cinematic imagery, and i’m honored to share it with you.”
