London producer, singer, songwriter, and DJ, Shift K3Y, is back with brand new single “Only You.” Out now via Ultra Music / Columbia UK, the artist revealed the track via BBC Radio 1Xtra as Mistajam’s selection for Jam Hot Record. Real name Lewis Jankel, “Only You” is the first single of 2018 from Shift K3Y and again sees the artist fully compose each aspect of the track including production, organic instrumentation, and vocals.
For those familiar with Shift K3Y’s expansive discography that includes viral chart-toppers including “Touch,” “I Know,” and “Gone Missing feat. BB Diamond” to name a few, “Only You” proves a perfect fit into his club-meets-pop hybrid sound. Setting the foundation with a piano melody matched with bouncy house percussion, “Only You” allows Jankel’s hook laden vocals to take center stage on the anthemic dance record. As for how the record came to life, Jankel explains:
“After I came back from a few shows in the US, I started to draft ideas for new material. I wanted to take it back to the nature of what I am about musically, utilising my vocal on my own production.”
If unfamiliar with Shift K3Y before now, his mastery as a crossover artist has awarded him releases on taste making labels including Dim Mak, Fools Gold, Night Bass, Ultra and Owsla over the past seven years. Routinely touring the global club circuit, Shift K3Y is a seasoned DJ playing both massive festival stages worldwide and intimate venues from New York to Seoul. In 2016, Shift K3Y released critically acclaimed full-length album, Nit3 Tales, that featured a host of major league artists including MNEK, MJ Cole, KStewart and Chris Lorenzo. Following this release, 2017 saw Shift K3Y add a live show to his resume via a performance with a 12-piece string orchestra in London’s Boxpark Croydon.
Outside of his own productions, Jankel also boasts songwriting and production credits for platinum selling projects with Tinie Tempah, Jess Glynne, and Zara Larsen, as well as production for Stormzy and Craig David, all achieved due to Jankel’s penchant for a hybrid sound that at anytime could combine influences of R&B, Funk, Hip-Hop, and House.
